DeafACT, the peak body for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people in the ACT and the surrounding area is running an all abilities Come and Try Sports Day as part of the International Day for People with a Disability.

When: Sunday 2nd December 2018
Time: 10am to 3pm
Where: Southwell Park, Thurbon Road Lyneham

The event is for people of all ages and abilities to come together and experience different sports in a safe and welcoming environment.

The day will feature sports such as:

  • Touch Football
  • Volleyball (Beach & Grass)
  • Netball
  • Cricket
  • Fun Activities (included Athletics)

We will have Auslan interpreters on hand and staff skilled at different communication methods.

Issues caused by social exclusion such as mental illness and obesity affect Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people at a higher rate than the mainstream population. Days like this bring people together and introduce them to sports and activities in their local community.

The day promises to mix exercise with fun and you may even make some new friends!

Funded by the I-Day Grants by the ACT Government the event is free but bookings are essential so we can understand your needs.

A free BBQ sausage sizzler will be offered on the day along with water and refreshments.
