  1. DeafACT AGM – 16th December 2019

    The DeafACT AGM has been rescheduled for Monday 16th December 2019 at Deafness Resource Centre – the event will be Auslan Interpreted

    When: Monday 16th December 2019
    Time: 6pm – 8pm
    Where: Deafness Resource Centre – Grant Cameron Community Centre, 27 Mulley St, Holder ACT 2611 and meeting in the large conference room, located on the ground floor.

  2. DeafACT Come & Try Sports Day!

    DeafACT, the peak body for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people in the ACT and the surrounding area is running an all abilities Come and Try Sports Day as part of the International Day for People with a Disability.

    When: Sunday 2nd December 2018
    Time: 10am to 3pm
    Where: Southwell Park, Thurbon Road Lyneham

    The event is for people of all ages and abilities to come together and experience different sports in a safe and welcoming environment.

    The day will feature sports such as:

    • Touch Football
    • Volleyball (Beach & Grass)
    • Netball
    • Cricket
    • Fun Activities (included Athletics)

    We will have Auslan interpreters on hand and staff skilled at different communication methods.

    Issues caused by social exclusion such as mental illness and obesity affect Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people at a higher rate than the mainstream population. Days like this bring people together and introduce them to sports and activities in their local community.

    The day promises to mix exercise with fun and you may even make some new friends!

    Funded by the I-Day Grants by the ACT Government the event is free but bookings are essential so we can understand your needs.

  3. Qwire Concert – Auslan Interpreted!

    On behalf of Qwire Concert Team, Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire is celebrating 25 fabulous years with another great concert, Taking Flight.

    Taking Flight celebrates the strength of their community. Taking inspiration from the likes of Concita Wurst, Maya Angelou, Sia and even Disney, Qwire’s 25th anniversary concert reminds people of all genders, orientations and expressions that they can look forward with pride to the future they dream of.

    There have a performance during Canberra’s SpringOut Pride Festival which they have Auslan Interpreters at the Quire Concert… details below:

    When: Saturday 17 November 2018

    Where: The Q Theatre, 251 Crawford Street Queanbeyan.

    Time: 7pm

    Cost: $35 full, $30 concession or group of 10.

    Quire Teams have already secured 20 tickets reserved for our Deaf/HoH people in the ACT and surrounding areas of NSW, utilising the Auslan Interpreters or T Loop including 5 free tickets (for those whose financial situation might otherwise prevent them from coming). Please must book through to David Worner, Qwire Convenor on convenor@canberraqwire.org.au. Not off online please, directly to David to get tickets specifically for Auslan Interpreters and or T Loop.

    If you want to attend this concert, you need to let David know by Monday morning on 5th November 2018 which they will release the reserved tickets to the general public.
    Please hurry and book your tickets if you want to attend this.

    Also if you want to have transport to attend the concert, there’s have some space on the bus for those who would like to purchase their own Concert Ticket, please text (sms) Marco Xuereb, member of Qwire Concert on 0456 435 203 so he can assist you for the transport.

  4. Tea Party Fundraiser – Cancelled and Postpone to early 2019

    The Tea Party Fundraiser event is now cancelled and will be postponed to early 2019 (next year) due unforeseen circumstance and lack of numbers of interest and catering numbers.

    So please watch this space for further notice for new event, flyer and details soon.

  5. DeafACT Trivia Night Fundraiser 2018!!

    DeafACT is proudly hosting the Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser again this year!

    When: Saturday 10th November 2018
    Time: 6pm for 6.30pm START
    Where: Canberra Labor Club – Fred Daly Function Room at Chandler Street Belconnen, ACT.

    Costs are:

    • $30 per Adult
    • $15 per Child (under 12)
    • $80 per Family of four (4)

    The ticket price are includes:

    • Lucky Door Prize
    • Finger Food
    • And evening of fun and surprises!

    Please let us know of any dietary requirements by 2nd November 2018 for catering purposes (such as allergies, gluten free, dairy free etc.), this is also the final deadline date for you to buy the tickets. Please email us your dietary requirement directly on secretary@deafact.org.au if you have any.

    Own beverages at bar prices (soft drinks, beers, wines) and water is free (HAHA).

    This fundraising event is to support our DeafACT board and members across our three areas of operation which are advocacy, sports and recreation, to support our general funds for future events to help the ACT Deaf community.
